I'm not sure how good of an idea this is but I think it is time to start getting in the Christmas spirit. I propose that we should record ourselves playing Christmassy music on our oboes even if its really short and not very good and uploading it onto 8notes. As long as you have a basic microphone and windows (or a mac and any sound recording software) then its possible. (I think it gets saved as a .wav file but you can get free software which converts it to mp3 format.) It's just an idea but it would be cool to here some of you playing.
Also, this is the official oboe Christmas thread, so all things Christmassy should be posted HERE.
We're playing The Polar Express in our Orchestra at school. XD Cheesey or what?! Its not toooo bad but it gets on my nerves. Greatly. The oboes part is easy, but there are some nice bits and bobs.
In our school's band, we're playing "Do You Hear What I Hear". I got pretty lucky- its one of my favorite Christmas songs. Even if the oboe doesnt get that much melody(I dont think I've ever seen a song with more rests!) its still pretty fun. I almost wish i could play my clarinet for this song instead of oboe cause they get more melody(first clarinets anyway, which is still where i stand since i play in our school's jazz band) but I cant have everything. We're also playing one other which we haven't got yet.
Nice, in big band we're playing this arrangement of all tunes christmassy. It's great fun, especially this triangle part in one of the tunes which is comical but strangely satisfying.
About a week ago our band got our second peice- Jingle bell Rock! The oboe part is really boring so my band director let me play the flute part - which gets all melody(yay!).
