Just wondering if anyone's tried an oboe mouthpiece. I think they take either Eb soprano or Ab piccolo clarinet reeds. I thought of trying such a thing a few years ago but played on Jones reeds instead! =)

They are utterly abusurd. Pointless in my opinion. If you want to play, you should play the right way. Though, I know that Runyon still (maybe) produces a bassoon one, but oboe ones have since been discontinued. They occasionally pop up on ebay, but be prepared to spend a pretty penny for it. As for the tone, it changes the tone of the instrument pretty dramatically.

And in relation to reeds, you have to cut down Ab clarinet reeds. A lot. The mouthpieces are TINY.

That would be kinda cool. But why go to all the trouble just to get a mouth peice?
I'd rather play oboe with a double reed =D.

Eww.... no. Don't even consider these. I've seen them on ebay, but the double reed is what makes the unique tone of the oboe, along with the conical bore design. If you are going to play the oboe, please do it the right way. If you want a single reed, you should play the clarinet. This is not directed at anyone particularly. This is just a general rant at the absurdity that is an oboe mouthpiece. Whom ever though of it should be slapped.
