Yamaha oboes are very nice. Anything that looks like its plastic *cough cough Selmer...* is probably not your best bet. Although Yamaha may sound expensive, there are some really good deals out there if you look. Even used Yamaha's still have great tone quality.

I think that the Selmer Signet's are decent. I had one with low Bb flute (wooden) that cost me under $300 that I played for a few years until I stopped.

Get a Yamaha 241 Oboe for a beginner. They have Left F, and C-D Trill keys, all a beginner really needs.
