I want to get comments on those two oboes. I'm about to order one since I really like the two oboes I tried today. I want to know what I should get. I'm sort of doing a survey to get comments. The Patricola is not really known here in Montreal. They are mostly known for their clarinet.
I'm a professional violist that is starting the oboe. I want a dark sound and something that will project. Both oboes I tried were really easy to play. I guess I would consider grenadilla wood since it seems to be the best for projection. Anyone playing with a rosewood Patricola one?
Is the Fossati good enough to be considered as a pro oboe?
Thanks a lot and I'm looking forward to your answers,
My oboe is a Fossati E30, and I really like it. I've never played a Patricola (or even heard of it for that matter) so I don't know. But have a good time with the oboe! It's the best :D
I play on a Grenadilla Patricola Evoluzione oboe. It is absolutely amazing. The only thing I can say negative about it is that the manufacturer has decided to put felt pads on the C and below keys. That is an easy remedy though for any repair tech to perform for you. The intonation is great and I have never had any major problems out of this brand. I've played on Patricola for six years now and absolutely love it. One thing that the evoluzione has that most other professional oboes do not include as standard is the Philly high D key. It is great to help make that cross over from you high C to D. Good luck with your shopping.
