Oboe da caccia is the Baroque term for the Englsih Horn. It literally means hunting oboe.

Oboe da caccia, Johann Gottlieb Weigelt
Breslau, ca. 1740
It was very used from Bach. it`s a "tenor oboe" and it`s like an english horn, a fifth under the oboe (sorry don`t know the correct way to express this but I hope you understand).
It was called "da caccia" because it had a semicircular shape, very similar to the corno da caccia (hunting horn), but its sound is very sweet and melanchonic, nothing to do with hunting

The oboe d`caccia is a bit like an english horn, but the reeds are different ( more like little bassoon reeds than modern english horn reeds ). Also it`s in a different shape than the english horn. I`ll see if I can find a picture of one.
