My bassoon came with a neck strap, i am in a remote area, i have never seen a seat strap, how do the work. Can you tie string to the holes in the bottom of the boot joint and sit on it?

Is that what a seat strap basically is?

Yes, you can tie string to the hole in the butt of the horn and sit on it. That would be a very basic seat strap! A much better idea is to go to a leather shop, get them to cut you a nice 2-1/2 inch wide strip of good leather, about a yard long, and have a hook sewn into one end of it. The hook should be on a swivel so that it will turn 360 degrees around. If the hook is too big for the hole in your instrument, attach another ring to the instrument for the hook to go into. You can probably go on the internet and find pictures of seat straps if you can`t find one to buy, to show you how to make one.

A decent idea, but to me that would be much to thin. My bassoon, on some chairs, with a proper seat strap, slips out from underneath me. Drew`s idea would be fine.
