hi! my name is sarah and i have been playing the bassoon for five years now and the best reeds i have come accross are from peter musson. these are the only reeds i play on now ever since i tried a manufactured one. Trust me! if you don`t want to make them yourself get them! email me if you want to order some

I personally have had good luck w/ Jones reeds (you can get them for 6-7 bucks a pop online if you shop around). You will need to scrape them down quite a bit though (actually most any store-bought reed will need some refining). Try Soft and Medium-softs, as they will be a bit easier to play in tune. David Brundage with the US Army Band makes and sells very good reeds. (Also, contrabassoon reeds). They have a very bright quality, but play very well! : )

I have just started playing bassoon for a year... So, I am still searching for a good reed to suit my lip muscle. There is no reed maker around here!! Drop me a note if u can help out with!!

I would recommend seeing if you can make your own. Reeds are a very personal matter, and it is better to make them to your specific needs than to buy pre-made ones.
