Just wondering how long everyone has played for. I played for about a year before University, then played for 4 years throughout my degree. I've taken about 7 years off (!) and I am just getting started again.

it sounds like you are in the same boat i am in. i had played the bassoon from my 6th grade year in jr. high to my 11th grade year in highschool, and it's been since then i haven't played. so for me around about 6 or 7 years as well. i have just bought a new bassoon and am awaiting it's arrival ^^ so i'm very excited to get started playing once again.

I'm like both of you only I had an even longer layoff after school years. Getting the lip in shape after that long a layoff was tough, but I was also quite surprised and embarrassed to find I'd forgotten all the fingerings, especially the high ones.
Dreamer, what kind of bassoon did you buy?

I'm just starting again too! I've had a break of about five years, but missed it dreadfully - it is the best instrument. My bassoon at the moment needs a lot of work. (eg. The C# key produes a marvellous Eb!) My embouchure hurts...

I played alto, tenor, baritone, soprano, and bass saxophones for 5 years now (all together) and have played bassoon just for just about 2 years now. Seeing as the only person around our area that knows how to play the bassoon is Henry Paine, I basically had to teach myself (so my sound isn't the best =P ).

I started playing alto sax in sixth grade and switched to bari sax in seventh. The year after that I played bassoon and I now can't stop playing it!!!!
