Since I am switching to bassoon , I was wondering: does anyone have any suggestions for solo bassoon pieces that are absolutely beautiful? I am extremely fond of classical music, so anything in that category is pretty much good for me. I enjoy mystical, fairy tale-like songs if that helps. I'd appreciate any help from anyone.

What difficulty were you thinking of? Something for now, or something for when you're a bit farther along?

Either. I'll enjoy learning almost anything, and I'll also enjoy playing something that I've learned early on in my experience with the bassoon.

Sorry but the most beautiful music is usually really advanced! Err, The second movement of the Tansman sonata is really nice, but that is like Grade 6. It's a lovely melody, but then when you add the piano it goes really strange because there are loads of 9ths added. It's still really nice though.

Hey I found this piece that is pretty easy and it has both a slow section and a faster section. I am playing it for my schools solo and ensemble. It is called Romanze.

Thanks for all of the replies. I too am playing in solo and ensemble. I'm playing a Telemann solo in F minor. It's really mystical (just what I like). I appreciate any other suggestions.

Romanze... do you mean Romance for Bassoon, by Elgar? Cus that's not easy, that's a grade 8 piece. Never heard of one called Romanze though. Never played the Tanzman, i'll have to investigate out of my own curiosity.

I really like the 3rd movement of the Saint Saens sonata...but I think that's about grade 8 level as well. The 1st mvt is quite nice too but I don't like the middle section of it very much.

yeh I did the saint saens sonata for my grade 8. It is a beautiful piece, but i'm not really keen on the last page, the fast bit. I haven't done any of the other movements though.
