I`m wondering how i can learn to play jazz improv. I`ve heard plenty of it but i dont quite get how to put the scales in and use the changes. Any tips?

Thanks.

This is how I do it. This isn`t a set way or anything. First I would learn the tune, just the head. Then I would take the chord changes and just learn the arpeggios to them and practice that for a really long time so you can play the arpps. over the changes comfortably. Then I would learn the scales for each chord. (If you don`t know them there is a great book called "scales for jazz improvisation" out there) Then once you can play the scales comfortably, then start mixing things up. Put in some of your own ideas. Go and listen, listen, and listen some more. That is the number one thing you can do to help your improv. Then transcribe some solos. Start with some easy ones, like "So what, or Summertime, etc...) then your ears will start to come around. Hope that helps.
