Once in a while, but rarely i get a raspy sound when i play...IT killed me in the auditions for regionals... when i play the note it sounds alright at first, then it dies off but making a raspy sound in the process...Anyone know why?
Possibly the reason this is happening, is that, you are 1)you are not using enough air to support the note, or 2)you could have blown your chops, so, I suggest that you do breathing exercises before playing, and build up your endurance.
this happened to me once. my teacher said that one of the valve keys(the hingy that keeps the valve in place) was loose. he fixed it and my tone was perfect. try doing that.
You could be flooding the mouthpiece when you're playing. Also, AIR is very important. and it could be you changing your embouchure every now and then. umm, just work on tone excorsices and you should be fine...i hope.
