Sax would have been an obvious choice, because many of the fingerings are similar. Why have you stopped playing clarinet?

I haven't, Just couldn't participate in jazz with it because the jazz band we have is brass only. I'm going to play it in the regular band and the trumpet in jazz.

OH, that's gonna be too bad instruments to go back and forth on.
Well, at least Trumpet fingerings aren't too hard to remember .
I wouldn't know about the Clary though.

Actually, I found myself in that sort of situation: I played clarinet in high school, and after grade 8 there was no concert band for me to play in.

I eventually played clarinet as my solo instrument in music class, and trumpet in the swing band. My last public performance on clarinet was in the ensemble for the school production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" (which is fairly notey for clarinet).

I now play trumpet in a community concert band/wind orchestra, having focused on trumpet for the last 4-5 yers.

You bet it's hard!!! Emboucheres are completly different. My band director said he would like me to switch instruments on the fly and right now, when I switch, I can't play a single note on either

I eventually started playing sax for fun, and now find myself playing trumpet in one concert band, and sax in another concert band.

However, what I want to do is become good enough on sax to join a swing band.

i currently play the saxaphone and the trumpet, i find it fairly easy too switch between the two just dont play them straight after each other and always warm up getly
i fid havi a hot drink helps reset and relax my lips so i can change embosure (sp?)
you'll get used to it eventually

I play clarinet for concert band, tenor sax for jazz band, and I started trumpet a few months ago just for fun. I didn't have very many troubles switching to trumpet. The only thing I have trouble with is getting the high notes.

hmm... I always wanted to play sax but after I picked up the trumpet I never got up the nerve to start from scratch on the sax. Maybe one of these days I will.

You should do it, especially if you can find someone who is willing to show you how to play (ie: mouthpiece, fingerings, etc).
