I purchased a trumpet at a garage sale this weekend for $10, I was told it originally cost over $1000.
I don't know much at all about trumpets, but wanted one and couldn't pass up the price. I want to know what if it's worth fixing up and reselling, or if I should just enjoy a cheap trumpet-
Here's what I know:
1- It's purple with silver and gold colored slides.
2- Etched into the bell it says "Harmony since 1892".
3- On the left side of the second valve are three numbers- they are a bit unclear- the first two are either "0" or "9" and the last one is definitely a "9"- maybe serial number "999"?
4- The mouth piece is VERY stuck.

I cannot seem to find "harmony" brand trumpets when I search online... is it a "Bach"? is it really worth over 1000 dollars?

Purple?
It's one of those cheap Chinese trumpets off eBay, most likely.
Take it to your local music store, get a professional opinion.
If you dont want it, I'll take it =D

I'd go check it out at a store... where there are all the prossifisanls and DON"T try to take out the mouth piece yourself!!! You will dent it and it will be worth a lot of money for fixing... there is a gadget that takes it out no prob.

I know someone that owns a harmony trumpet. The instrument was bought from target for about $200, and, quite honestly, the instrument is a piece of CRAP. The intonation on the thing is bad. Even though it is supposed to be a student level trumpet, it would probably be easier for a beginner to to learn on a pro trumpet (or any other trumpet) just because the quality of the harmony is so bad. Not that all harmony trumpets are the same, (this one is gold), but if your trumpet is anything like this one I would look for a higher quality trumpet.
