Birdland is a good song... I like You Got It and Everbody Loves the Blues too

Yeah those are good charts, but his older stuff is definitely his best. His newest bands were always smaller combos where other tpts did the majority of the lead playing. good tunes though

every true trumpet player has birdland by maynard. another song i like by him is primal scream

I just got the birdland recording and it was pretty awesome. Another one i like is Chameleon

Macarthur Park is legendary. You have to have the original recording though...the secondary has a very strange bari-sax solo that just ruins the tune.

I recently heard Maynard's version of Pagliacci, and I may have to call it my favorite now. He just screams the melody at the end and he seems to never run out of juice. It's from his younger days, and he just destroys the horn. Awesome chart.

you had never heard his pagliacci? thats one of his best ever. in fact my fav drum corps played that in the 70's and i've been arranging it for a high school jazz band.
