Yes. Learning to transpose is very useful, you never know what key a tune is going to be in.

Are you talking about sight transposing? Actually, learning to transpose is a MUST for trumpet players. Wait until you sit down to play and they hand you a sax part! I have had to sight transpose from several different instrument parts, read off of the score (which is in concert key), as well as sight transpose from alto clef to treble clef and the concert key was E (go up a second and add two sharps).
Really, it's just another tool you need to have if you're serious about playing and want to be taken seriously.

Transposing is an absolute necessity for anyone planing on playing professionally, semi-professionally, or just as a serious hobyist.
If you do church services or christmas carols you will get hymns and piano parts. If you do musicals or operas - o ne night someone will be sick or the visiting star wants to sing the piece a 3rd lower. You need to be prepared.
I just did a concert last month and the Bassoon player did not make it to the concert. So the director handed me the Bassoon book and ask me to do it. You are expected to be able to transpose.
And besides, the best thing is you can play with anyone anytime.

Transposing is really important and easy to do. The only problem is that unless you have a handy button on the music writer you are using, it takes a while to do by hand.

Well personally ive never had to transpose from anything other than piano, but ive had to do that several times from voice and piano parts in church and a few other places... But ya, learnin to transpose (at least from instruments pitched in C) is def a useful skill, and it really isnt that hard to learn - just takes a little practice.
by the way, its actually useful for other instruments to (a couple days ago, the french horn player in the brass ensemble I'm in had to transpose from a tenor sax part).
