Re: Who is the best Trumpet player now?? 22:35 on Tuesday, October 26, 2004
There was a question directed by the music industry to who they thought was the best of best trumpet player and they asked this question to Doc Severson. They asked, "So Doc, what`s it like being the best horn player in the world". And Doc replied, "I don`t know, you will have to ask Phyl Drisco". Phyl Drisco has played around the world with the best of bests. He is still performing through out this planet and is so talented that he could cut a song just by using a copper pipe. This man was truly born to play the horn.
This is a very hard question. There are sooo many good trumpets out there. I have only heard Maynard fergusen, but he doesn`d sound all that great. What I want to know is where are the best female trumpets. There has to be one out there. I didn`t read of one in this whole discussion.
P.S. To you peole who say that you`re the best, youre probably some grade schooler who can`t even hit the G at the top of the staff. Don`t join discussions that you dont understand. grrr

listen to Ingrid Jensen and Deb Wagner....both real good FEMALE trumpeters! and by the way lil trumpet girl.......who cares if someone can`t hit a G on the top of the stave. Someone might be learning the trumpet....how crap will they feel if you go saying that?! Your turning people away from playing the trumpet!

Alright, you people do realize that wynton marsalis hasn`t played classical music, or practice classical music in a really long time right, like, seriously over 5 years since he played it. And then his jazz music is more emotional rather than high voltage jazz like say maynard ferguson, some people don`t like the emotional jazz all that much.
Wynton Marsalis. 11:50 on Wednesday, December 29, 2004
heh,.. Marsalis began in Classical, and is now regularly Playing Jazz. Whenever someone mentions trumpet players, I instantly think of Marsalis as being the greatest. But that really isn`t fair, because he derives his style from the many greats that came before him.
He has a cd called "Popluar Songs, the best of Wynton Marsalis." It`s a cd that covers many of the style of Jazz that Wynton plays, not to mention the many mutes and sounds he implements.
He wrote some books, as well as some indepth musical studies for young people.
I think that I`m very good trumpeter, but you will decide if I`m good.If you don`t belive me. contact with me and I`ll send you my record by the e-mail.I`m 15 and now I play Haydn,Hummel,Brandenburg concerto N2 with Piccolo, but I can play it with normal(B) trumpet.Contact me if YOU want
"best" trumpet player 21:43 on Wednesday, December 29, 2004
Wynton Marsalis actually began with classical music, then became interested in other stuff, jazz, funk, marching bands and other stuff, very diverse player actually, mostly deals with smooth jazz, amazing tone of course, normally doesn`t play super high, nor does he need to. Wynton Marsalis isn`t as great as everyone here seems to think he really is. Wynton Marsalis just happens to be a technical monster, seriously, who`s knowledge is the greatest among all musicians, and the ability to play all these different styles, thats true, the guys creepy with how much he knows. But that doesn`t mean he`s the best...
Best classical Trumpet player, ADOLPH "BUD" HERSETH! My gosh...this guy was amazing...the most powerful trumpet in history, amazing tone, powerful powerful player, played with the chicago symphony, AS PRINCIBLE TRUMPET FOR OVER 50 YEARS!! he got the job when he was 24 years old, right out of college, and was given the job right after he played, i mean, he just got done playing, and the conducter offered him the job right there and then. Usually they listen to all the applicants...but Bud played so well that he was offered it right there and then, thats amazing! The voice of the chicago symphony, one of the best bands in classical history, for over 50 years...no one besides herseth can say that. Wynton marsalis compared to him is nothing, as good as tone as marsalis has, herseth`s is a lot better...Marsalis might be technically better, but as far as tone, herseth is above and beyond...what marsalis is.
As far as jazz trumpet player, Marsalis is one of the better ones today...others are allen vizzutti, who can really play quite well in the high range and quite fast, really really fast, also Arturo Sandoval, and Maynard Ferguson...a long time ago, Maynard brings high energy, but...he just plays high, nothing to technical, but, fun to listen to once in a while. The best Trumpet player in the field of jazz though is none other than Miles Davis, because of his beautiful tone, the great solo`s, though i didn`t like the jazz-fusion stuff all that much...but when he was playing "cool" jazz, it was great, so fun, had many amazing songs, great sound, one of those signature sounds, also, he played be-bop with one of jazz`s greats, charlie parker, which meant he learned a thing or two about harmonization.
Louis Armstrong was a great trumpet player which made jazz very well known, though, in all honesty, he wasn`t the best, because of the fact that he didn`t have the best instruments, nor did he have the best practice methods as we do now, he was more of an entertainer in all honesty, also...none of you know this probally, but, BUDDY BOLDON, the first jazz trumpet player, before louis armstrong was born, he created jazz for trumpet, but louis armstrong made it mainstream.
one more thing, don`t think that your so very good, cause theres always someone better, don`t be cocky and don`t show off, and for sure don`t be stupid or think you know more than you do, those are some of wynton marsalis`s rules for playing trumpet, and i say don`t think that your that good...cause thats just being arogent/stupidity, and it really annoys people, especially because you seem to put yourself above others, don`t do that, everyone...including me.
