Ok so I'm thinkin about gettin a new trumpet (ya i know, heard this one before huh?)
I read and answered posts like this on a ton of forums, and I know that the number one answer is to just play it, and see which one you like the most (and I agree!)

But thats not really what I'm askin here. What Im thinkin about getting is a Yamaha YTR-6335 Mike Vax horn. What I want to know is if anyone has or has played one or knows anything about one. If anyone has had problems with it or anything of that sort. Also, just general info about the horn (used in lead Jazz/orchestra, has a dark/bright sound, etc.)

Also if anyone has recomendations on other horns, I'd love to hear them. Right now I have a Jupiter intermediate horn and (although it really isnt a bad intermediate horn) I'm about ready to destroy it lol...
I've already played the Vax horn, and played a Xeno at the same time, but I like the Vax more and it was about $600 cheaper, so Im not really considering the Xeno at this point.

As far as what Im lookin for in a horn, I would say that the main things I want are a Bb trumpet that slots easy in the higher register (very unlike my Jupiter), has good valves, and a brighter sound.

Thanks for readin all that

Sounds like you've got your mind made up, and I think it's a good choice.

I played a Mike Vax for a while and liked it. It's bright and quick, responds well to half-valving and octave+ jumps if you've got the right mouthpiece. Solid intonation in the upper register, hearty bottom all the way into the pedal tones.

But, as you said, you've got to play it. Buy the one you try - every horn is different.

Be cool, and make it beautiful!

I've never played the Mike Vax horn, but if you haven't made up your mind yet I would suggest the yamaha Bobby Shew horn. It's fits the description you are looking for: slots easy in high range and tends to produce a brighter sound. It's an ultra lightweight horn and feels great when playing jazz music. It's the one I own, and I tried out many horns before I came to a decision. But like I said, I haven't tried the Vax horn, so it may be better. Good luck.

if u want a horn that will help you get in the upper register, i recommend any proffesional getzen (they go as little 1100) and it is a very light horn and has a lifetime warrenty for its valves when you buy any of there pro horns i love my getzen and wouldn't trade it in for anything else
