Hello everyone, I have a King, and I bought it for 500-600$, should I switch to a Bach? It seems like everyone is recommanding Bach. I`m a beginner trumpeter. Please advise. Thanks

honestly... if you`re a beginner don`t worry about having a bach... the king will work just fine. in a year or too you might want to get something new like a bach or getzen but if you`re going to do that then dont worry about price... the more you spend the better the instrument...

Gosh... I belong to a trombone forum. Don`t worry, I go to confession and do penance often.

My son recently started taking trumpet lessons, and being very wise I bought him a real cheap piece of junk called a Roy Benson. The guy lied to me and said it was a professional model. I didn`t fall for it as it only cost $170 and I found virtually nothing on the net about it. But I wanted to save money.

His instructor says it will very soon be holding him back. Do you think it matters what you get, in a student line model, as long as you go with a recognized name such as Bach?

And finally, my two cents worth on the composition of the instrument argument in here... I personally had a trombone made totally of peanut brittle, and it is the best. This is only fitting since I am the best. The brittle part of it gives the horn a real jazzy sound, and you sure can`t beat the taste!

Who was the conductor that said, "Don`t look at the trombones, it only encourages them."? You trumpet folks are really kinda funny you know.

The question was not what standard trumpet maker produces the best horns, but what are the best quality. That would be Yamaha, far and away. The horns from Yamaha all play and sound very good and are very consistent. The Japanese have some of the best quality control in the world. Bach might have made a few trumpets that can play better than the best Yamaha`s, but they have terrible quality control, so most of their horns are garbage. If you are lucky enough to find a good one, get it. Otherwise, don`t waste your time trying to find a great Bach when you can get something else that is easier and just as good as any Bach you are likely to find.

Depends what you want to play.

Orchestral/Symphonic - get a good heavy bach.

Jazz/Concert - get something a bit brighter, maybe yamaha.

If you can, rather than buying from ebay, get a chance to hold it and feel it. Make sure the valve action is good - sometimes you can`t fix that later.

Look for a well known top quality brand. It doesn`t necessarily need to be young or new - I`d love an OLDS recording model and that`s no spring chicken!!

Just make sure YOU like it and feel comfortable playing it and that you feel that you can get what YOU want out of it. That`s the most important.

WOW 1st time to this site and for a forum about trumpet players and musicians most of you sound like drummers!
Shilke its simple its the best and they are still been made not many of them around because there made carefully which takes time unlike bach and yamaha which fall out of factory doors. for a beginner any horn in clean working order will do as good tone starts with the player not mouthpiece or metal tubes he/she blowing through.

or MAYBE... none of us should be drummers... we all have our own personal picks on the best trumpet makers... so who cares? i have an indian trumpet that doesn`t even have felts in the valves... who cares... i don`t play it mind you, i like my other trumpets way more. but it`s not everything.. as long as you are trying to make yourself damn good at playing, some people can`t afford to buy great trumpets, so they get what they can afford. bach may not be the best, but yamaha isn`t either... it`s all personal choice... mine is getzen or bach... but it doesnt matter; and i know someone will argue my decisions, and it won`t upset me, because i know what i like and no one else here does.
