Hi, i am currenly a freshman in high school. Latly i have been workin on my range. For a few jazz songs but also for the pure enjoyment of it. I just now started looking on google for things about this range. I read that most high school lead trumpet players are not ready for the extreme register. Now i was playing today and i can play a double F decetly well. Than i can sometimes lip it up to a weaker G. But my question is. Was that article i read correct? Should i stop playing these notes in the fear that i have odd methods to hit these notes that are damaging to me? I would love any advice u could give me! Thanks

Dan -

Break down and find a good lead player in your area to take some lessons from. There is no way to diagnose your playing and help you play high via the net. The only way to ensure you`re doing things correctly is to get with someone who can watch and listen to you while guiding you.

Good luck,

It`s not smart to keep hitting higher and higher without the guidance of someone who knows whether or not you`re going to do stuff wrong. I doubt you`ll seriously injure yourself trying to play higher, and a good teacher isn`t used for that. They`re there to make sure you get set up doing stuff in such a way that you don`t make bad habits that can hinder your endurance, sound, or a number of other things.

Don`t skimp, get a teacher. Period. There is nothing you could do that would be better for your playing then that alone.

Cheers!
Aaron
