yes you should it`s good insturment. if you really try hard and play hard then you will achieve. i wanted to play it but i couldn`t because it was rare at my school so i played the baritone. anything can sound good on a saxophone. you can play for classical to jazz pieces, it`s great.

Sax is great! It`s really fun to play and not too difficult so long as you`re prepared to practise and learn. I write a lot of rock music into which I incorporate the saxophone. Lovely versatile instrument.

I think the saxophone is a great instrument! My best friend (hi!!) plays the alto. I like all four: soprano, alto, tenor and baritone but i wud play tenor or bari because most people play the alto so i wud like 2 b different!!!
Also if u learn the sax, u could also play the flute and clarinet as they r all woodwind instruments.
U cud always play the trumpet instead u know!!!lol!

the alto-sax is a great instrument to play. the only hard part at the beggining is blowing into the mouthpiece and assembling the mouthpiece.

I started playing tenor sax in 6th grade and im half way through eighth right now. It is so easy, after that time I can play songs like pink panther, take five, fight song(lol) and rhapsody in blue. Its a lot of fun and you would be surprized how easily you can make your favortie songs sound great. Its also easy to teach yourself a song once you get good at it.

Cliff,
P.S. Sax is a definate yes!!!!

It`s kinda hard at first to get a good sound, but as long as you practice your embouchure, and long tones and such it can sound really good. I LOVED the sax and already played the clarinet so i picked it up about a year ago and 2 months later won silver in a music festival on it (1 mark away from a gold!) and now i`m playin Glenn Miller! Its really fun, you just have to work at it as with everything else,

Good luck!

YES
The saxophone- sleek, sexy, quite a unique sound. It`s not hard to pick up the basics, but you will have to work hard to get proper intunation and dynamic contrast. If you are in a JuniorHigh/High school check out if they have a beginning band class or a Jazz Band.

i play tenor sax as well as a few other instruments, and i really love its versatility. The only problem with tenor is that in band you end up playing predominantly low-end stuff, but that`s alright... its actually really good tone practice!!! seriously, it is!! I sit in the back of band practicing long notes and my embouchoure and tone and all that. Learning which notes are which is very easy (its one of the easiest instruments in that respect). Where you fall into trouble is tone, but that comes with practice, and if you have a good teacher, then you`re home and hosed!

If you`re thinking about it, then start listening to some sax players; sonny rollins, charlie parker, john coltrane, and there`s literally thousands more!!! but then you`ll know that the sax is the instrument to play!

Don`t start on the bari. In most school bands you just play really easy and boring stuff. Tenors ok. You get some fun stuff but my schools tenor players always complain that most of their stuff is boring and easy. Alto sax is the best sax to start on. It is the "meat and potatoes" of the sax family and can play any kind of music well. Also there is almost always good and fun band music with good a. sax parts.
