Here's a start – Stravinsky conducting Stravinsky: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tGA6bpscj8

(Actually looking for a YouTube clip of The Flood, with a favourite particularly groovy cadence a minute or so in. Found this Firebird excerpt while searching...)

I do sometimes. Well, more of I start crying.

Sometimes, I feel like my whole soul is being pulled into the music, and there's nothing I can do to stop it. That's why I love music. When you're playing a really emotional song, nothing else in the world matters except for the feelings in the song.

Hey guys (figuratively speaking) – get the tissues ready for this one – esp when you remember that Schumann ended up in a lunatic asylum, etc, etc.

<Added>

Ummmmmmmm ... don't put the tissues away yet. The "Nimrod" variation, Elgar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUgoBb8m1eE

<Added>

... and then, to chill out a bit (but not too much), there's Arvo Pärt's Spiegel im Spiegel:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtFPdBUl7XQ – possibly slightly too fast; truncated
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sh_zPsucV0U – possibly slightly too slow ... very "late night" – blimey, everyone's a critic :(

<Added>

Satie: Gnossienne #5 – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiTxAfvrIh4

<Added>

Sorry for the indulgence – another clip of the Pärt, with Estonian stills this time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-a9eF9oxWT4

From the Wikipedia entry: Barnes is also a tubist and has performed with numerous professional organizations in the United States. OK – right instrument!

(Now I'm looking for a YouTube clip...)

Lonely Beach (Normandy 1944) is a concert band piece of music, though it does have a lovely tuba solo in the begining. I can't find a Youtube clip, does anyone have the recording, by any chance... i can't find it on the net ANYWHERE. It is a lovely song.

See if you have any luck with this: http://www.sbcc.edu/music/website/concband/concband.htm

I didn't ... it looks like there's meant to be a .wav file excerpt – don't know if it's my browser not happening, etc; possibly the clip isn't there any more.

I get goosebumps and feel kinda tingly, like i have extra energy when everyone in the band is compleaty in sync. It's only happened once or twice like this year at festivel we were playing At the Strongholds of En Gedi by Holsinger and everything came together and it makes you feel really happy and sad at the same time, like you can feel all the emotions that are coming out of the music and at the end of the piece I was shaking cause i knew we played it the best we ever had. It's moments like that that i love about music.

yeah, it's something that no one who isn't in band or something like it can understand. it's what helps me not get !***!ed when people call me a band geek. in fact, it makes me proud of being a band geek!
