My summer isn't too busy at this point. But I'm getting a new oboe this summer! I'm really excited for that! I just had youth symphony auditions not too long ago, and now I'm waiting for results! I tried out for oboe and english horn, and it went well and I think I got in!

ugggg...
I'm off to a concert now. Sometimes I wonder why I even show up. I'm essentially forced to play bassoon in band. It really doesn't sound any different if I don't show up because the tenor sax has the same parts on every song we play and our super LOUD egotistic bari sax player covers up that part anyway. No...bassoons are not meant for band, especially if there is only one bassoon in the band.

ugg neither are oboes. One gets sick of playing the flute part an octave lower on every song after a while...

You're lucky! The only time I ever had a solo was in junior high at a christmas concert. We didn't have any flutes in our band when I was in 7th-8th grade and I was supposed to have a soli with the flutes on one particular piece, but there were none, so I ended up playing it by myself. I guess that could count as a solo lol

there weren't any flutes in your band? wow. isn't that like... impossible?

I get a good amount of solos. But i must agree, I'm sick of playing the flute part an octave lower... That's why I love pieces where we get totally different parts.

yeah, I really wish our band director would let us play harder music. Our band is 9th-12th grade, but she won't let us play anything harder than a grade 2.5

Ours is lol. I can sight read every piece of music that we play. I don't like being in band but that is the only music program my school has so I'm stuck with it. At least I have youth symphony though! We play the "real" stuff, and it's a great challenge!

Wow, it seems like it's been forever since I'vre been here...

I definately agree that my high school needs more challenging music. We usually play around 2.5, which can get sad sometimes. Also, I hate that all the pieces that have features are usually trumpets. It's very rare we have a solo, and you can forget the bassoon!

2.5??? Serious? Dang. That's too bad. We usually play 3.5-4.5 stuff.
