aaw dang, what a put down. ¬___¬
the people on this site are... ERGH... you make a comment and then some guy comes along to pounce all over your post. ¬_¬ this USED to be my favourite site. i wasn`t even looking to get attacked. i just said the bassoon was a challenging instrument.

anyways.

"about the basoon- less than 30 keys makes it easier,"
it`s still the only MAINSTREAM instrument besides keyboard instruemtns to have keys for all ten fingers, and it`s got more keys than most woodwinds. and you`re right, all the keys help a lot, but the techniques involved with the keys get`s weird, and as other people have mentioned, a lot of keys could help some people, but could prove difficult for others. i like all the keys. hehe. learning how they all work takes a loong while, and of course, there are a multitude of other things that makes the bassoon difficult besides the keys. like the reeds and such.

"much less limit,"
i can sure agree with you on that. i mean, you actually need to assign certain reeds for certain purposes. the dynamic range i can get on my current reed is horrible. BUT, i have a 10 minute mp3 of all the things a bassoon can do as far as special effects. and it`s SO COOL b/c it`s done with circular breathing so the guy doesn`t stop playing. of course, these effects aren`t called for often by the bassoon.

"and its much easier to control."
WRONG. next question. (well, it`s way easier to control than a horn, but it`s harder to get a good sound out of a bassoon than most instruments)

"people say that orchestra with no horns is not an orcharstra, they dont say it about the basoon,"
because people actually know what horns are. >__< LMAO. anyways, the same thing could be said about a lot of other instuments, except the horn is just so versatile. i love the horn.

"it has a big limit of special effects and its not close to human voice, your imagination."
hoyl shiit why is this poster such an ass? =___= anyways refer to the reply about the bassoon`s limit. and for the human voice, i think that the bassoon covers the range of the male voice quite well. it starts at the B flat below the bass clef and goes ALMOST 4 octaves higher.

"and second, you dont really play all these instruments, but the order is quite orginized, ppl dont show off and lie about how many instruments you play, we werent born yesterday..."
okay i know that wasn`t directed at me but that was kinda mean hahaha.

anyways yea, the bassoon aint the hardest instrument for most people to play, but i say it beats my clarinet any day. hahaha.

Exactly jay.

The part that really ticks me off is that someone said the bassoon had a limit or w.e

I believe this is wrong, since the bassoon does most of the cartoon sounds for verbal moves, etc. etc... and would have more types of sound than the horn.

You should go to http://www.sounddogs.com/searchresults.asp to hear many of the bassoon sounds.

Also, I just said that I HEARD that the bassoon was close to the human voice! My damn imagination? In your dreams.

So many people are so self-centered/conceited and arrogant...

Playing chords and strumming them is fairly easy to pick up. But then if u want to learn to play properly the guitar is endless! Finger picking style, speed picking, legato, sweep picking, classical style, blues fingerstyle, jazz, blues. TRY BENDING A GUITAR STRIN AND THEN SHAKING IT WITH A BIT OF VIBRATO AND SOUND AS GOOD AS GARY MOORE! - MOST FAIL AND SOUND OUT OF TUNE!

The list goes on. You have to have incredible right and left hand stamina and strength as well as techique to master this instrument. As Joe satriani once said "The Guitar is the instrument of pain!

I`m not saying other insruments arn`t hard at all, but there is so much to learn on the guitar and takes years if u want to play it properly.

I haven`t played double reed instruments yet, and I don`t know much about guitar, but of all the other wind instruments, french horn is the hardest. I started on that 4 years ago and was the only brass player in my school band and it was really hard. When I picked up trumpet I was quite literally astounded by how easy it was. (Except that my range on trumpet is 1/2 my horn range.) I`ve played most of the wind instruments since then and in my opinion, everything is a big step down from french horn.

I also think that piano is fairly easy because when it comes down to it, you`re just pressing keys, even though you use all 10 fingers. You don`t have an embochure to worry about. And yes, I`ve been playing piano for 9 years.

Maggie,

what`s your range on horn? I also have been playing for four years,
but I had been on a break for about month or so;
though a week ago I picked it up again because I have
a performance... tomorrow. !!!

I always had a really monster good low range,
but a super hard time on the high range.

Freshman year of college I was majoring in horn performance,
but then the weekend before finals I smashed my face open,
so I took a year off of music to major in drama.
Now I`m gonna switch programs again- to musical theatre!

(My face is fine now, by the way.)

That said, I should go practice...

My range on horn is from the F 1 1/2 octaves below middle C to the C two octaves above middle C. I`ve experienced the same thing - I can easily get way lower than my music ever goes but my high range isn`t too good.

Good luck at your performance. Have fun!

Cool, that`s pretty much what I have when I`m in shape.

The performance went really well overall; I screwed up
pretty badly a few times, but lots of people liked it anyway.
God bless the trumpets; they really carried it.
