Yup, I agree. I love Bachs, but you have to get lucky and try a lot before you find that gem. As for Edwards, I don`t think I will play anything else, especially for symphony gigs, for a long time. Love em.

Never by any meands by a morelli, these are cheap horns sold on ebay, and whoever is trying to sell it on this website is trying to scam you, go for a known brand such as bach, king, conn, or the yamaha, which I prefer. I was unfortunate enough to buy a Morelli from ebay and it has the worst tone quality of any instrument I`ve used in my entire life, which is saying a lot because I have played almost every brass instrument (with the exception of the french horns) in my school`s instrument storage room. The silver plating has began to strip away after only a year of owning it, the counterweight not being detachable is also extremely inconvenient.

Ok, all brands that are good, for beginners, but If you want a purely professional model, I recommend my personal choice, one of my favorite trombones I own is a Bach 42BO Stradivarius Professional Trombone, awesome tone and clarity, ps, Jupiters suck

I personally play a Bach 36BO Convertable Trombone....

Personally, I love this trombone....I went to a near brass store....tried several Bach 42`s....Conn, King, Olds...and Edwards....

Seems that Edwards Trombones and Bach`s are the best, in my opinion.

just recently ordered my bach strad 36BO.... I am in love. Perfect for both jazz and band. Great tone quality, and being 18 and a college student, didnt burn a hole through my wallet. I highly reccomend bach.

I am sorry, but the brand does matter. My opinion though? Bach. I have played Bach the most. The Back I currently have is a medium bore f attachment strad. I tried out many trombones, and all of them had a pinched tone (not the type that you get when your throat is closed but different) but the Bach had a beautiful tone. It was by far superior to any of the other trombones I tried.

I don`t know much about which trombone is best price wise, because I bought mine used from a music dealership, but $1400 is pretty good for one as quality as this one.

The instrument is a thing of God it seems like. The slide felt as if it was floating it was so smooth, the tone was stupendous. It was amazing. But the Benge, Conn, and a a few others I tried, they left much to desired. They felt to much like my old student horn.

The Bach Medium Bore Strad is a very peristaltic horn. I use it for many things, jazz, symphonic, Sousa marches, pep band (though I wouldn`t recommend that, I only use it when I forget my other trombone). I will soon be part of a Ska band, this trombone does it all.

It was said for your Bach to work properly, you would have to warm up before class, but come on!!!! If you don`t warm up before class as it is now, you shouldn`t get a new trombone because your chops will be shot in a very short time if you expect to be able to play without warming up.

It has been mentioned many times that to find a good Bach, You need to look a ton. Well, I fell this look is well worth it. The Bach Strad (in my opinion) is the best horn out there that the average person can purchase.

Peter

PS-If you do get a new trombone, keep your old one. You will desperately need it for marching. Oh, I have stories. Just an example, someone once was borrowing a F Attachment horn from the teacher and used it during marching and stepped on the slide and bent it in half. Keep your old one.

Oh, I don`t know about that either. It seems like a lot of people have bad experiences with Bachs, but I have owned 2. A 16m, which is the only jazz horn I have ever been happy with, and a 42, which was awesome. The only reason I don`t have a 42 now, is that I dumped the extra money into my Edwards. Which, is pretty amazing.

My point is, Bachs are much better than many people think. Sure, you might not get a great one on your first attemt, I may have been lucky getting 2 that were amazing both on the first horn I tried, but it`s not like you will have to try 50 before finding one that won`t disintegrate. More than likely, every, minus a select few, Bach you will play will be a good horn, but you may have to try a few to get that "great" horn. But really, it`s like that with all non-custom horns. Not all of em are perfect, especially since everyone views each horn differently then anyone else.

Bachs are great horns, and I will always stand by them and recommend them for someone looking for a new horn who doesn`t want to spend the money on high-end customs like Edwards, Shires, Raths, etc. If you had a bad experience with a Bach, it doesn`t mean that everyone else will, or you may have had one of the unlucky, and in my view, rare, "bad" ones.

As for the best brand, I have not been playing long enough to have a true favorite. My main horn is a Holton Collegiate TR501. I bought it for 50 bucks in a local classified ad section. I have had it for years, and I still like it, regardless of what was said in the earlier responses. In High School I also played a Yamaha bass trombone with a rose brass bell and an F attachment. This trombone made me sound better instantly. Regardless of your skill level, you can only take recommendations seriously to a certain point. Most music store will allow you to try out different instruments and mouthpieces. That is the best way to find the right horn. Find what will work for the kind of music that you will play. I personally like the sound of a larger bore in rose brass. Older horns and ebay are another option. I recently picked up an antique on ebay that was made by an austrian company in 1890. The price was great and the sound is excellant, though the jury is still out on anything else until it gets refurbished. Buying anything on ebay requires research and patience. If there are too few pictures, email the seller for more. Don`t buy the first one that you see unless it is what you want. Buying a brand new horn is a great thing, but don`t ignore that old dented horn in the classifieds. My Holton came that way. I only paid 50 bucks for the horn and $200 for the repairs and new finish. Like I said beefore, recommendations are great, but you are a unique individual who needs a horn that meets your own needs. What works for one person may never work for you. Good luck.

If your into playing jazz or concert band, even marching band, the Conn 88H horn is the best. I forgot the name of it, but both Bach and Conn make a horn with a removable F attachmant. Thats the horn that i`m trying to get.

Well I play a really bad brand of horn (Benge) cough! cough! But I think that a Bach Stratovarious horn is the best ive ever played, an Omega isn`t that bad either but ive never played 1 of those. My horns trigger always has something wrong with it. So I suggest you stay away from them! I bet I sound better than you do even though I havent played mine as long. Ive only played for three years! Well anyway I hope we can talk sometime. Good luck finding a trombone!

Perfect for 2nd chair jazz with the ocasional first thrown in, and also concert band. I highly reccomend it.

The best trombone on the market is a Conn 88H trombone. There are different types of them, but I highly recommed the Conn 88H-CL, those horn are easy to play with a F attachment. It dosent even seem to switch to the F attachment it so fast. The mouthpiece is 24k gold and its not cuped shaped but more as a direct path to the horn, its just easier to play that way i think.

I have played on nearly every brand of mouthpiece out there, and there is a diference in brands. If you are looking for a quality mouthpiece with excellent intonation, response, and plain old quality, I recomend Bach and Schlike. I found that other mouthpieces, especially those made by King are generally very small in bore diameter, and take away from the trombones natural warm and open sound, and replace it with bright sharp noise. A good mouthpiece is definatley worth the investment. (But always make sure to try the mouthpiece before you actuall buy it.)
