Hi..
not really a trombone player, but am writing an arrangement of Pachabel`s Canon in D for a band of 8 (2 flutes, 1 Bb clarinet, 3 trumpets, 2 trombones) anyway, i need to know how low and high a trombone can play -- especially how low because i have a low d below the bass clef written on 2nd trombone`s part and i think on 1st`s too. so, i don`t want to make an impossible part for them. thanks.

I haven`t played trombone in quite a few years so I may not be remembering too correctly. But I believe a D below the bass clef would be pretty tough to play. I guess depending on how experienced the player is. An experienced player may be able to do it easy.

D below the staff is too low. Generally, trombones drop to E below the staff, then pedal tones for the better players. If you keep it keep it to withing the staff + 1 octave you should be ok.

see, it all depends on the player and their horn really. but if the trombone players have F attachments, low D below the staff should be no problem. trombone players in high school can generally play as low as low low B flat (pedal note) and as high as a high B flat (above the staff). good luck with this piece! it sounds really fun! and if you wouldn`t mind, it would be really fun to see the parts. send me an e-mail sometime.

Thanks. I printed it out about a couple months ago after getting an answer from a guy at my school. Guess I forgot about this forum. Sorry. Thanks for the help anyway. I had a few notes I was unsure of still. This confirms that both parts are playable.
