Hi, i'm from Singapore and i play in a school band as a trombonist. I've been playing for 4 years and its seems that for the last 3 years after i go my basics right i've went to tenor trombone and then to bass trombone cos the SL had to get someone to save the lower parts after the seniors graduated.
I can confidently say that i love and perform well on both tenor and bass. The problem now is that i'm taking my ABRSM grade 5 in july so i need something to keep the bass parts clean, and that MP has to sound correct on a tenor (with a resonably smaller bore). Currently i'm using a 1 1/2 G on the bass bone and the pedal Eb and Ds come out nicely for "Suite for Phantom of the Opera". The high notes take a slight beating, but i can safely play a High G (i'm not a pro).
So i need some advice on a mouthpiece thats deeper and wider than the DW 4AL that i was using during the tenor days (those things can hit a double Bb nicely i think), but less bass then the 1.5 G. I was thinking of euphonium mouthpieces. Hope you guys could recommended. Thks

You have to treat the bass trombone and tenor trombone as two separate instruments, so you should have a separate mouthpiece for each one. Stick with the 1 1/2G on bass, and a 4G or 5G on tenor. That is the only way that you will get appropriate sounds for each instrument.

Singapore huh? Thats cool, I've never been there, I'm from NJ, US. It sounds like you're using a bach, if thats the case then you try a 3. Thats about the smallest you can get for a small-bore by bach standards. You can get a deeper small-bore mouthpiece if you buy a schilke but I don't know what companies are in Singapore. What brands of mouthpieces do you use over there?

I'm using a Bach Stradivarius Bass trombone, on a large/bass shank mouthpiece, so i'm not sure about the small bore part, cos i thought size 3 was for small shank. Yeah and thanks, i read about 3/4G and it looks good, i might be getting something like that for my exams.

Get a marcinkewitz custom. I recomend getting there equivelant mouthpiece to the 1g but have them make it with a slightly tighter throat. That will provide a little more back presure and make a huge diference in your higher registers.
Good luck

I 51D for bass? That sounds a bit small. Actually, that sounds incredibly small. Try a Schilke 58, 59, or 60. Those are more your "bass bone" sized pieces.

G'day
Go for the Vincent Bach 4G definately an all rounder mouth piece. great upper register and brillian lower register. I used to play the 4G but converted to the Christian Lindberg number 4 which is definately a high range mouth piece. But for what you want go for the Bach 4g
