Does anyone know of a song with a crazy trombone solo. A solo that is completly mind blowing. Something that leaves you speechless

sure, but different things blow different people's minds. personally i'd rather be blown away by a beautiful tone and a beautiful melody over crazy fast and high chops.
but some recommendations
Airmen of Note - I'm Getting Sentimental Over You with David Steinmeyer playing the already range intensive melody up yet another octave and still making it sound good!
Curtis Fuller's solo on the tune Locomotion from Coltrane's "Blue Train"
Anything by Carl Fontana, Frank Rosolino, Andy Martin..... so much great stuff out there!

There are a lot of solos that Steve Davis plays that leave you in awe... not with playing 200 miles per hour, but with a beautiful mellow tone, and weaving inside and outside of the chord changes, while playing catchy phrases at the same time.

For those who don't know him, Steve Davis is a jazz trombonist from the New York/Connecticut area.

I agree with Steve and all of his choices. Andy Martin is a personal favorite of mine. Andy is a great guy and full of great ideas. I would just listen around for other instruments too, like a trumpet player named Wayne Bergeron. He is uncanny. We met two years ago and he is a great guy and used to play lead for Maynard but he is now the lead for Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band. That band has some kickin solo players. One of guy before I go Rick Simerly on his debut CD "Simple Complexity" plays an amazing free form opening to "Giant Steps". Happy Hunting.

I know a pretty good one that my school's marching band does in the stands at football games. It's one of those fast crazy ones. "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" by Jet. It's hard to get right at first but once you practice, it's a nice solo

Oh please, you're not actually comparing marching band solos to actual jazz bebop solos, are you? Is there anything more UNMUSICAL than marching band?

Actually, when done right, marching band can be VERY musical and benificial.

So yes, there is something more unmusical than marching band.

Country Western.

Hey, don't you be backtalking my band. I have my hobby and you have yours. By the way, I thought you'd be smarter than this as a trombonist, but marching band is not a style of music. We can play jazz, rock, classical...country, you name it. This year our show is Billy Joel.

I think the reason for marching band is so the fans can go to the bathroom and get some food during halftime.

I think you don't know what you're talking about. I mean seriously, man, I was just giving my input. My brother listens to Death Metal, I can't stand it, but if that's what he likes then hey whatever. Marching band has helped me to play louder and stuff, I actually do better in Jazz band. I have better posture, people can hear me, and I mean, it's just a good time, you know/'

hmm...did you even play in a marching band? I strongly agree with Erik, if done right marching band can be very musical. i know in the past we've done Georgia on my mind, i forgot the others from that show (which i was in 4th grade, i just stood on the sidelines helping out the band parents. The next year was a completely jazz show from swing to blues, then it was new york new york, and a few others, and then, personially my favorite, the music from riverdance, which you can get off of arrangers publishing company's site. last year was all jazz, and this year is a fast heart riviting show that has beethoven's fifth, i have a love, a re-write of jack miraculous, and then the fastest and hardest, rockey point hoilday. ---this year isn't a good one, but still, it still opens a lot of doors and even windows for everyone, such as drum core, blast...their a marching band...so yeah...marching band can and will take you unimaginable places...so its not a time to get up and take care of yourself--thats throughout the game except halftime.

Well, musicman, I was in a marching band, and you're right - it took me places that I didn't want to imagine. It really ticked me off, because for the first half of the first semester of every school year, they would cancel regular wind ensemble in favor of marching band, and I wanted to play the wind ensemble music. Plus, it's not fun being in a marching band when your football team goes 1-9 or 0-10. And the people in my marching band didn't know what they were doing. They would always bump into me, and it could never be corrected. So I guess my bad experiences left me with a bad taste for marching band.

Going back to the original topic, there's a solo trombone piece by Brian Lynn called "Doolallynastics", which can be heard on Joe Alessi's "Trombonastics" album. There's also a free recording of it available for download on Peter Ellefson's website, if you search for it. The subtitle is "a brief torture for trombone", and it's about 8 minutes long, unaccompanied, with both classical and jazz influences in its writing. There's even some laughing and screaming in the middle. Enjoy!

Buy the first three Chicago albums. Buy the best of Blood Sweat and Tears for the t-bone solo in "God Bless the Child". Also, there is a nice version of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" out there with a trombone lead. Moonlight serinade comes to mind as well.
