Our show this year was TERRIBLE!..our trumpets suck which didnt help much considering they had the melody most of the time. But u would think our director would have fixed that since he plays trumpet and all.

that was low rider. well it was suposed to be i was just trying it out. that was a song just the trombone section played in the stands. my friend and i figured out three diferent parts for the song and that was the first part. we (just the t-bone section) also play louie louie, tequela(can't spell) laffey taffey, and iron man and seven nation army (from the wite stripes) next year were going to also play mortal combat, jump on it, and the bananna boat song. these are al songs that the section has figured out over the years and past doun. the ones underlined are the knew ones from this year. we are the only section that makes up our own songs and get our band directer to let us play them. that might kinda show you how cool our section is. without us the band would be dull

Yes, do the audition.
Even if you don't get it, you're no worse off than before. And it can be a good learning experience. Just relax, look confident (especially if the judges can see you), and play the best you can.
The big tendency when people are nervous is to rush everything, so relax, and focus on good time.
Just tune out everyone and pretend you're back in the practice room playing your best.
Just remember... there's only the next note. if you mess up, you can't go back and fix it, so just keep focusing on making the next note the best you can. don't let mistakes get to you. we all make them. judges know that. good luck.
oh...what are you playing for your audition?

one more thing... you're worried about having a small section....
I'm not sure if you like classical music much or not. But... if you want to get inspired by what a section of four trombone is really capable, watch this video (for the first few minutes at least) and hear the famous trombone section from the Chicago Symphony playing Tannhauser. Personally I think it's one of the most beautiful and dramatic climaxes you'll ever hear. (It actually occurs twice, once in the beginning, once towards the end, but you'll have the watch the second half clip)

the section..
Jay Friedman, James Gilbertson, Frank Crisafuli, and Edward Kleinhammer on bass. Oh, and of course the legendary Arnold Jacobs on trombone.
enjoy

when I took my exit audition to get out of the Armed Forces School of Music, my hands were shaking so bad I had this kind of granny goat vibrato thing going. It was horrible. I passed, but it certainly wasn't the best playing I was capable of.
So I can sympathize with your nervousness.
Just breathe, relax the best you can. The auditioners understand that you're nerves are playing a part, and generally will take that into consideration. They can usually tell what's nerves and what's something else.
Doug Yeo of the Boston Symphony wrote a great article about this sort of thing. It really helped me. Maybe it will help you.
