ok so I just found out that I can't get a Bach 42tg that I want for about 6-9 months since the Bach workers are on strike. Does anyone know how good the Conn 88H-SGX-CL is? I really like it but I need some other opinions. Thanks

Just personal, but I can't stand the Christian Lindberg valve. The 88H alone is an awesome horn if it works well for you, but that valve is just not for me.

If you were set on the Bach, be patient. A horn purchase is not something that you would want to settle for second best on. Search around. Lots of stores still have these in stock, and you may just get lucky and find one.

I have a Christian Lindberg valve. I've had so much trouble with it. I would say to just wait for the Bach.

with the quality control issues the bach horns have had lately, maybe consider hunting down a used one?
I own an old 42BO and I have a new 42BO that the government provides me.... I won't play the new one. I just can't stand it. The old one, while being cosmetically challenged, is just such a better playing horn.
Just a humble opinion, of course.

I agree Steve. New Bachs are very inconsistent. (Not so sure it's just Bachs, I think most American non-custom horns are inconsistent, with Bachs the worst). Older Bachs are much more consistently good. I played an older one in college and loved it. You still can find a new good one though, you just have to be patient and search through lots of them.

thanks everyone for your input. I've decided to get the Conn 88hk-cl. It has a Christian Lindberg rotor, a 9 inch rose brass bell, and rose brass outer slides. I will probably invest in the removable leadpipes in the future.

Just a question, how does the government provide you a horn? haha
