I just recently recieved a peice of music (Sonata for Trombone and Piano. by Eric Ewazen)from my private instructor and it has Tenor clef on it. I know how to transpose it, but I would much rather know it that have to write in all the notes. My band director told me that it wouldn't be worth my time to learn it. But I kind of want to. Does anyone know what I should do, or how I should go about learning Tenor Clef?

Thank you,
Claire

hmm,I'll tell what I did and it works for me.
I Played a piece that I knew how it was going,I had the recording of that piece.
And I Played it many many times,Until I learned the clef it's still not as bass clef but It's very good right now.
I recommend you to learn Tenor cleff even with the hard work because you will bump into many pieces (or parts of pieces) in tenor clef in the future.
Good Luck!

before you get the hardest way you can possibly go about learning the clef, here's something that may help even more. Get a few books that focus on tenor clef. Theres actually another topic about this on this forum and go check it out. That discussion has a lot more ideas on it. But the way he said would be the hardest way and possibly the wrong way to go about it.

I said it in the other thread, and I'll say it here.
Check out Brad Edward's book Introductory Studies in Tenor and Alto Clef (subtitled Before Blahzevich)
available at www.hickeys.com
Reginald Fink has a good book called Introducing the Tenor Clef as well.
Either way.. the point is to learn how to read the clef, so whatever you do, devote some time to clef reading every day. Even if it's only five minutes. If you don't use it, you'll lose it, guaranteed.
As for the original response, I'll be honest, I couldn't really understand what was being said.
