I have been playing the flute for about 6 years. I'm flute principle and section leadr at my highschool. I told my teacher I wanted to learn trombone for football games.... And he let me take one home, but I am clueless. I printed out the slide positions, but can't tell which note is which.... I know how to play a few notes, but I am still just really confused.
any tips, help, advice or what not.
hey wooo good on u for switching to trombone way more exciting than the flute!!!!
i would advise to study the positions chart you have!!! then try reaching the notes on one shift at a time for example closed position (1st) then 2nd and so on and you willgradually be able to put them to gether and it will be good practise aswell!!
hope that helps
and good luck
The flute gets a lot more solos than the trombone. But with the trombone you can play in a very wide range. I wouldn't call any instrument more exciting than another one.
sit down with a tuner and the chart to make sure you're actually hitting the note you're intending to hit and not a different one. this is helpful when switching from woodwinds to brass, because we're used to one note per fingering (generally)
Oh happy day! I was like omg when I read that. anywayyyyy....... I started trombone last year and I was totally clueless too. Positions don't really matter without the correct airsteam, and pros can play like, 10 notes in the same position- so just start slow and learn one note at a time and you'll figure it out faster than you think.
Get a slide position chart and a tuner. Go to each position as it is according to the slide chart. And relate that position to something else. So like 1st position is easy it's all the way in. Second remember it's an inch give or take a little out. ect.
I think the easiest two are first and 6th. 1st obviously because it's all the way in. 6th because at least for me it's a little less than full arm extension.
