Cool, the colorgaurd seems to be a bit off though... idk... Those formations seem hard to learn. How many pieces do u perform? Usually Drum and Bugle corps have only a few songs, and I think that would kinda get bland...
I just personally don't like being part of a huge band. I mean I do like to watch them. But the marching band I perform with is very small (about 40 people not including colorgaurd) and we have won a ton of NYS Championships. Makes you feel more a part of the marching band.
well our color guard is actualy really good. but we fired the guard coach befor he finished training them and writing the drill. so they where on there own for a while. we usualy do four to five songs. we had one more planed but it would have taken too much time in proformance. those where tough formations this year. expecualy the zipper pull at the end.
we're actualy a very close band. i can see how most big bands aren't but we are a big band in a small town so we get to know pritty much every one really well.
That is good that you are a "tight band." But I am meaning more like, if I was a part of a band with 20 tubas. I would be thinking, "why am I doing this, there are 19 other people playing the same part as me." Do you ever feel like that?
That is more than average for a marching band like this. But I still like my small 25 song marching band. . Though I am just glad that it isn't 30 years ago, where 2 valved instruments were the norm.
well it's different for tubas. you guys only get one part. the trombones get four seporate parts, most of the time, that are all individualy important. so it dosn't feel like that for us but i can see how it would for a tuba player.
wow you guys play alot of songs. i guess there are alot of different types of marching bands. here in florida we're normal.
Lol, yah, forgot about the trombones (I should remember that, I play Trombone for jazz band). Sometimes when we are lucky, we get our parts broken up into 2 parts. In concert band pieces though, unless it is a large arrangement, there is only one part. But somepieces I am playing recently there are 4 parts with a tuba solo (Yay!)...
Yah, well we don't do the field routines, we just march. The only special things we do is we weave on occassion down the street, we have disbanding formations. We breakup into circles and play on the streets and such. Since none of our actual practices are going towards formations, we prob have more time to learn music.
we focus most of our attention on playing. insted of marching, unlike most of the bands around here. we're able to do that because our assistant b-director is a marching expert so we learn formations well in less time.
