i'm a trombone player, and a very good one at that and im serious about my music, but i would like to get snake bites....i want them really bad but would they effect my playing?

They probably would affect your playing. There are a couple thing to think about. If you got the bites installed inside the rim of your mouthpiece I don't think it would affect you negatively. If you get the bites outside where the rim sits then you will have some sort of a leak which is usually not good.

There are a lot of brass players in a certain country who are getting dental work done that adds a little space between their front teeth. These little gaps seem to help their playing especially in the high range. Perhaps a little snake bite might allow a little venting which could help.

Talk to some people who have simialr piercings (musicians or not) and see if they can blow air through piercings or if the skin and muscles seal it enough. Obviously no piercding at the center of the lips unless you plan on removing them each time you play.
