Last week I purchased a violin and have started to enjoy it very much. I played viola in high school (45 years ago) and haven't picked up a bowed instrument since. I also play guitar and enjoy that as well. I ended up purchasing a Knilling Bucharest violin (not a very expensive instrument). I guess it will be OK for me to get my feet back on the ground with, though. Any opinions on these violins or suggestions for a re-starter?

My advice is to get a good teacher! I am a re-learner as well and i found that I tried to pick it up again and had developed bad habits!
