I've recently purchased a violin and the first volume Suzuki cd and music book. I am learning to play fairly easily, but don't have an instructor yet. My question is...should I play every song absolutely perfectly before I move on to the next one, or should I just be able to play "decently" before moving to the next song.
I don't think I'll every play as clean and precise as the professional violinist on the Suzuki CD, but this is only a hobby for me.
Thanks for any feed back!

I started with the viola, now playing the violin. The beginning of the first Suzuki book is fairly easy and short so my teacher assigned 2 to 3 songs at a time. However, as you go through the book it becomes more and more challenging and a teacher will assist you as you progress. Even though you learn a song and it's not perfect, keep it in your practice every day along with a new song. At the end of the first book, you should be able to play everything in it with ease. Keep looking for an instructor. They are invaluable.

I started with a Suzuki book too. I don't usually learn to play them til its perfect in the beginning, but it improves with practise as you study more songs. So I guess in the end one will be able to play them perfectly, with good practise.
I'm a newbie too, and I'm learning violin as a hobby as well
