Hey, im Jack, im 16 and hoping to learn the violin, I play other instruments, and go to school, so I dont have an unlimited amount of time to practice every day, but say I had an hour long lesson every week, how long should i practice for every day? Eg, to an extent that i can actually become a somewhat decent violinist..
One Hour a day, 7 days a week. Do everything your teacher tells you to do. Do it again and again but listen as you do it. Do not practice mistakes; practice successes.
If you do less than 3 hours a week, you will get behind and wish later that you'd been disciplined. If you are a quick learner you might be ok with 3 hours a week. But there is generally always more to work on.
Well, it depends on what pieces you're playing. So, if you're doing longer pieces, it may take an hour to try to perfect it. If it's short, it may take half an hour to perfect it. Aim for perfection every day! So, when your tired of playing it over and over again, you are ready for another piece to stretch out. Do not even glance at the time, because then you are either eager to stop, or you are wasting precious time.
Typically, however long your lesson is that is how long you should practice a day. If you are REALLY serious about it, then practice three times longer than your lesson a day. I was always told that if I missed one day of practice, I had to double the time the next day, and if I missed two days I had to quadruple the time. Basically, each day would double the time that you should practice - so in other words, never miss a day of practice! The only reason you might skip is if you are feeling like you may be getting an injury from practicing. If you are a typical busy teenager, you need to find a block of time in which you can be sure to practice every day. When I started violin I practiced before breakfast. I couldn't eat breakfast until I had practiced, so that got me moving in the morning! Other people I know practice before bed or during lunch hour.
Hopefully that helps you (or anyone else) out in some way!
the more you practice, the better you get. If I had the choice, I'd practice 6-7 hours a day as I love classical music, I play the violin and the piano...my main problems are 1) the lack of time because of work 2) the fact that I can't play whenever I want because I live with other people... sometimes they get annoyed when I practice too much.
Yess"N"Amen Practice at least 1hr a day,Plus if your haveing trouble with a piece, throughout the day pick up your instrument, and play the piece or even just the part your troubled with....The snowball efect:the more you play, the better you get,the easier it is to learn, the faster you learn, the better you get You get the point
