Hi all,
My boyfriend and I just bought a violin off of ebay. We're not really expecting much, just something cheap to try out and have fun with. I thought I would ask your opinions while we wait for it to arrive. Hopefully it isn't total junk.

Here is the auction link:

Violin/fiddle is GREAT fun! I'm glad that you and your friend are going to give it a try! I hope it turns out to be an ok instrument. Now and then you get a good one from an auction... however.... often they need quite a lot of work before being easily playable. You may need to take it to a shop to be setup so that the bridge is shaped correctly, etc. Best wishes.. and happy fiddle playing!

I can't really tell from the picture, but when you are just starting out you don't need to worry about the quality as much since you are going to be in the process of training your ear to hear "good" violin music! Like the fiddler above said, make sure you take it to your local strings/music shop to get it checked out and see if it has any defects or whatnot. Get the bow checked out too. I am guessing they are sending it with a fiberglass - they are very hardy. The case looked cheap, but as long as it works and isn't cracked and is durable, it will be okay. Who knows? You may really take to violin and end up getting a nicer instrument someday, too! Then you will want to try out the violin in person to see if you like how it "sounds."
