hello,I've got a big problem with tuning. i am a begginer and i have bought a new violin. it is so hard to tune it! is it always like that??? pegs are so hard! it is so hard to turn pegs!!! when will that stop? how should i stop that? i cannot tune it,because pegs are not even moving!!! please help,i am desperate, please!!!!!! thank you,i hope you will help me!
Is it really humid where your violin is stored? It can make the wood expand and make it hard to move the pegs. Try storing it somewhere less humid or getting a dehumidifier.
Have you tried pulling them out a bit? The ends are tapered - but be careful, of course.
Thank you for help,I don't take violin in some humid place, here in croatia is very dry and also hot. I put little dust of chalk(crayon) in peg holes and now it is fine. thank you so much one more time! It is some kind sad that I had to wait a little before someone answered me,when I post this question on violinmasterclass forum, they answered me imediately and there was more answers. thank you for your care and help!
pulling your pegs out and coting them with graphite (pencil lead) is a chep way to make them slippier. You can also use fine tuners (you may have to buy them) to get a more perfect tone. Another way to get just a hair closer is by pressing the string near the pegs just a bit to shapen it and pull;ing the string lightly away horizontaly from the fingerboard to flatten it. Or you could just have bad pegs. not all pegs are made equally.
