Hi, I'm intending to start playing violin and I don't read music very well. What are some books that could help me with that?

Hi, I've not been playing long myself, but would recommend 'String Builder' or 'Team Strings'. I'd have a word with your violin tutor. Also 'fiddle time christmas' is good fun if you can play a few notes.

The book I started with is Essential Elements for strings. I think it has a cd with it. Whatever you get, get something with a cd, because that will not only show you the rhythm, but you can also hear if you are out of tune or not.

"A Tune A Day" is also a very good violin book study. It is printed in Australia....

Im a suzuki student and when i started i couldnt read any music. it has the music written down and then above the notes the finger has a number, kind of like guitar tab. it helped me a lot and by the end of the first book you will get better at reading music. suzuki is about technique more then music though...

i would go for the suzuki method books. they come with an audio cd, and they build a very stong foundation. That way even if you dont want to play cloassical, (i.e. you like bluegrass, scottish, romanian, etc) you have a very good tone quality and proper technique.

Yeah I also started with Essential Elements. It's very helpful for beginners because it tells you what fingers each note is and the notes in the beginning are all labeled (for your reading convenience).
