I need help, you see, my friends are starting a rock band, but they won't let me in the band because the only instrument i know how to play is the violin, and they don't believe me when i say that you can play rock with the violin, so can you maybe name some rock songs with a violin in it, because i need to prove to them that rock music can have violin in it. and i don't really know any rock songs that do, wich is why i need your help. haha lol
Oh my god have you never heard of apocolyptica! they are a band that plays on cello, and if a cello can be in a rock band a violin can! they do songs like nothing else matters and stairway to heaven, and they don't sound classical! they even do a really crazy version of hall of the mountain king! some evanessence has violin in it.
if you can get a pickup for your violin, the same way i think you get them for acoustic guitars i don't think there should be any problem!
On their album DE STIJL The White Stripes used Paul Henry Ossy – violin in "I'm Bound to Pack It Up" and electric violin in "Why Can't You Be Nicer to Me?
Go to iTunes and download them, they are great.
The violin has a fairly long history in rock by now. Some earlier examples: the hard rock classic "White Bird Must Fly" by It's a Beautiful Day, Papa John Creach on various Jefferson Airplane tunes (he joined sometime in the early seventies), pretty much anything by the Flock (their original violinist was Jerry Goodman who eventually left to join the Mahavishnu Orchestra), The Who's "Baba O'Reilly" (which features a guest violinist), and Blind Faith's "Sea of Joy".
omg!
same thing here!
except well its my band
so yeah...
i play the violin and i sing
and my inspiration is Apocalyptica!
theyre awsome!
you should look up Apocalyptica on yahoo...
I had the same problem a while back where a band said their music was too "heavy" and this was a country band. go to www.myspace.com/outlawfiddlinman
I used a blues screamer and a crybaby wah pedal. tell me thats not rock. plus, how much of a friend were they if they wouldn't let you in the band anyway?
A lot of music (inluding rock and metal) uses violins on the occasion.. I'm not sure exactly what type of rock you're talking about, but I know a metal band called Naio Ssaion that uses an electric violin, and Yes did a symphonic tour with an orchestra.
They're either somewhat ignorant or just using your instrument as an excuse..
