How many years did you play violin when you started to learn vibrato?
Was it hard?
How long did it take to perfect it?

I started vibrato at the end of last year, end of my fourth year, but ive been through three teachers (the first two were awful, my third, a goddess!) i think if you've been playing for a year or two you could start. its funny though, cos you'll start and everything will be all over the place, violin and all! well it was with me. if you've got a good teacher you'll be fine. some people just get it straight away, others have to work at it.

Well M.R.,Im not a violinist, but I do play a electric fretless bass(the finger board looks just like the violin no frets).Ive been playing for 25 yrs. I just started playing Fretless about 3 yrs ago,Im pretty good, with God the Fathers blessings and alot of hard work. The main challenge,I have is staying in correct intonnatoin(mainly in the 2nd octave).Trust me,time and persistance will make you a awsome musician. Be Blessed Chaz.

I haven't started learning it myself, but I think it's more of a take it when it's ready sort of thing - meaning, don't rush into trying to learn it before you're fully ready, try to get a good hang on basics like tuning and bowing technique first.. well, that's what I'm doing anyway
Another one of my teacher's students has been playing for several years and hasn't started to learn it yet.

I started to learn vibrato when I was in my fourth year of practice. It is now my 7th year of practice and I unfortunately have still not perfected it. I do the endless vibrato exercises but it seems that the problem is that I am too tense when playing. Even if you don't have all the violin technique down, I would recommend doing the vibrato exercises (going back and fourth on the string, and similar exercises) after about a year or so of playing just so you are loose enough when you actually start to receive formal vibrato training, and it will impress your teacher as a bonus.

I played violin since I was 6, and started using vibrato properly since I turned 10. I'm 16 now and it's pretty much automatic whatever I play :P

I started in my third year of playing, and three years later I still think I don't have it perfected. Thankfully, my current teacher is a goddess herself, so she's definetly helped me alot with it.
But take it when you feel like it. There's no rush, right?

I'm now 13 years and have been playing the violin since I was 9-10 years. I started to work on my vibrato about a year ago and worked on it for a few months. But then I changed teacher and stopped working with vibrato. So, after months of exercises I can't do it perfect.
My advise to you is to start play with vibrato on just half- or -whole notes, then maybe do it on shorter notes. Good luck!

Any imputs and comments are welcome!

Ive been playing for about 6 months and my teacher recently told me to try vibrato, since Grade 5 violin requires it. Ive found it quite difficult though, my hand is too tense! The way my teacher taught me is to place the violin on your shoulder and rest the scroll on a wall, then practice moving your hand on the fingerboard while bowing. Sorry if i was very vague in my description, I'm just sure how to describe it precisely...
