I am beginning violin lessons in a couple of weeks from our local music store which offers lessons in several instruments. The violin teacher offers lessons weekly for 30 minutes. Is that enough or should I look for an instructor that would give an hour lesson? I found one however a greater distance away. Probably over an hours ride as opposed to twenty minutes. Thanks.
My lessons are 30 minutes and I take lessons from probably the best teacher in my area (almost all our best violin players at my school take from her as well. She offers either 30, 45, or 60 minute lessons, I'd bet most people take 45 but its definitely not a bad thing that they only offer 30 minute lessons if you feel you are getting a lot out of them still. And a lot of teachers (mine including) will go over sometimes if they want a few extra minutes with you.
30 minute lessons should be fine if the teachers are good
Thirty minutes a week is pretty standard. College or conservatory music majors usually take one-hour lessons (one per week) in their major instrument, but that's a more specialized and advanced sort of thing.
