Okay like the title says, I am a violin noob! I was wondering if it would be advisable/plausable to teach myself violin. I mean its not like I don't have any musical training, I play 3 other instruments including guitar for 3 years... but still like I don't know would I need a teacher? Thanx much!

First, it's "as the title says" and "not as if I don't have any musical training".
Yes, you can make various, roughly musical, noises without lessons, but if you want to be able to play with any real degree of proficiency you'll need some.

don' worry, this aint computer game forum, we don't call people noobs round here.
instead we say congrats on picking up the violin!!!
now generally, self-teaching is a little dodgy as there's heaps of technical issues you won't know about. But hell, how did they start playing in the first place?
The question you should ask is, do i really want to pursue violin seriously, or just for fun. If its serious, GET A TEACHER. if its for fun, hack it baby!

I personally
think that you should get
a teacher because thats
the easiest way to go
with the violin...
I know that some
ppl teach themselves but
maybe you should try a teacher...

I seriously thought about going it alone but did get a teacher and she is terrific! In just two lessons, I feel the benifits already. I'm holding the violin properly, bowing correctly, etc. I couldn't imagine going it alone now. Just my two cents.

you could get lessons for the basic stuff and then go back for refreshers every couple of months. if you want to play orchestra or pro then definately, but for bands and stuff then sure go ahead, but if you get the basics down you should be fine for your own fun

Man..! You Know What????
My cousin, who is now 24, started the violin WITHOUT a tutor when he was 20.
Now, he plays like a mini Mozart and he sounds wonderful.
Maybe, you should consider getting a tutor to teach you basic music skills.
I wouldn't have even learned them if I didn't have a music teacher...
So, maybe you can start out by teaching yourself, but you won't progress as much in the long run without anybody to teach you the harder stuff.
Great Choice in Instrument...!!
That guy is right by the way....Don't call yourself a noob...we aren't playing like....runescape..or anything...so just be happy with your talents!!!

I would advise finding a teacher. Maybe you don't have to have lessons every week on schedule, maybe once a month or something, but you should still have a teacher. I know a few people who taught themselves and they can make decent noise, but they seriously lack in technical skill.
Best wishes,
