How much do new, higher end strings make in the sounds you'll produce? ??? I find my strings seem not too bright and a bit dead. It's a new violin that is not entry level but not much above that. Thanks

If you have really cheap strings, your violin wont sound very good. I've only used Dominant strings so I can't really say what the difference will be, but I know that they do make a difference!

Also, strings should be changed every 6 months-year. If they are really old they wont sound as good either.

I replaced the original steel strings on both of my Chinese violins (electric and acoustic) with Dominants and it made a really big difference, the originals were very bad, harsh and shrill sounding and a pain to play.Same thing with the cello, replaced the originals with Jargars, a very noticeable difference, though maybe a little less than on the violins. Don't know about the difference between decent and really great strings, I suppose it's smaller than the difference between real bad and decent ones.

i changed from stock stings to dominant tomastic and it made me sound tons better. then i got a really nice rare violin from my great grandfather which blew any violin i have ever played on away.

depends on how much you want to pay. really you don't want to pay too much because if you break a string you don't want to mix and match between brands, the sound quality can be noticeable if you replace an expensive string with a cheap one. dominants are a good mid high range brand. i need a set but can't afford any! poor uni student!
