My violin's name is Murasaki, because all of its accessories are purple ("Murasaki" is purple in Japanese). There's a purple ribbon on the scroll that's been there since I was in the fifth grade, and I have a purple shoulder rest... plus I'm working on getting a shiny purple bow.

I named mine Maeve, it´s the name of a legendary Celtic Warrior Queen. I named my bow Ella.

I was given my violin, and when the previous owner parted with it, she said "Goodbye Bella", and told me she had named it that. So, it stuck. :]

I like the distant prospect of thought between my violin and the way I play the music..

I'm not going to start my huge instrument-names chart for all the little things I own, but for my strings:

Violin: Maria
Bow: Aria (No connection to Maria, long story behind that :P)

Double Bass: Gunther (Don't ask >_>
Bow: Titanic. It starts off wonderful, but midway through the trip ends up a giant wreck.

I usually just refer to my violin as stupid damn thing

My daughter named both my guitars... Rosario (acustic) Bridget (my electric)...

When we started playing voilin together she named her violin tommy... then when I got mine... well... it became Jerry...
Tommy was just picked by her... but mine well yes is a reference to the cartoon...

She has since traded in her 1/10 violin for a 1/8 and its name is Daisy.

My first full-sized violin I got I named "Old Timer", because its back was a one-piece and there was a design in the middle that resembled an hourglass. My current violin I named "Ernest"....long story.

Oh dear. Jorma is an oldish finnish name and in common language it has a meaning of "dick".

I myself haven´t actually named my violins though I´d sort of like to. Just haven´t found a name to fit for them yet.

My violin is named Fitzwilliam and my bow is Willie.

I'm going to get a new insturment soon, either a different violin or a viola, I've outgrown it. It depends on what my orchestra teacher says. SO I'm going to have to say goodbye to them.

I named my violin Damian cuz it was made in romania and for some reason i like that name lol... i dont have a name for my bow...

i named my violin Billy so before playing in a concert i say 'lets go and do our best Billy!' i know its kinda stupid but i feel that by giving your instrument a name you give it a personality and a life

btw i didnt give the bow a name cuz i treat the violin and bow as one

I named y violin Carmie well i dont know why but my mom named it for me because the brand is Cremona and stuff plus because of Carmen from both George Lopez and Sisterhood of the Traveling pants. My violin was also made in China
