Hey
I am a beginner in learning the viloin & I wanna ask some questions.
I found a teacher who gives me one session a week & it lasts for 45 min.Is it enough?
Also,I took up till now 2 sessions.I learnt how to hold the bow & the body of the violin, some items in reading notes and to play individual strings and their namings but still I didn't learn how to put my fingers on the strings.I may seem in a hurry but is it really a good rate ?
I'm asking this question as many warned me from private teachers as they may be lazy somehow and advised me to go to an institute but the problem is that the institute has a LARGE number of students.
Sorry for speaking a lot but I'm just confused.
Thanks for reading!!
this may sound weird, but my orchestra teacher put stickers on the finger board where the notes go, if you do have a teacher, tell him/her if he/she can put stickers on the fingerings, it may sound weird, but that is how i learned!
i started out with stickers and now im only down to the first one on my violin (on the top) and they have been very helpful and i think that even if you only get 45min. for as many times as you meet your teacher you still have time usually every day to practice too.
hey just reading it again, i used to get 20 minutes one on one a week! so 45 is pretty good. your teacher is showing you proper technique, which is extremely important and something about how to read the music which is important! i had to teach myself those things! I also didn't start playing for a couple of lessons but when you get started you may feel a bit more comfortable. keep trying with your teacher and if you haven't started playing soon or a still dissatisfied later then change, but the chance of one on one (im assuming thats what you are) is great. if your not one on one and in a class it is rather hard to get everyone started and playing at the same rate because you have to show individual attention to everyones technique, this is speaking from experience!
yea, like musicrox said, ask your teacher to put stickers on the fingerboard. or even better, ask her to use white out because the more your fingers go on it, the more you get used to where your fingers are supposed to be and the more the white out will fade away!
