Hi!
Help please.. I ve been studying violin for 1 year and a half and I still have problem in placing my left hand in right position. My teacher tells me how it should be but for some reason I place it upper then I should (meaning that the violin doesn t come in touch with my finger but with the rest part of the hand-sorry for my english, I m not familiar with the exact orology). I hope you understood what I mean
And the result is that I don t play the right notes and also my hand is so tight that it hurts after a while.
My teacher s advice is to play some easy exercises and with a low beat.
Any other tips?

Well there could be a few things! Perhaps you violin is to big for you. If you know for sure its not my teacher show me this excercise (cause I had the exact same problem pressing really hard on the strings)!!! What my teacher made me do is had me place my first finger on the strings so just start by playing the e on the d string and just touch it and start playing it with the bow, its going to sound really bad and press down until you get the sound you want and you'll find that you don't have to push really hard to get a note to sound. Keep going with the 2nd finger, then third than 4th on all the strings. Then go in to scales, etudes and other excercises. Hope this help!!!
