hey all, right now i play on a Chinese factory made violin from a pawn shop. I can`t complain thought because at least i have a violin. I would like to hopefully soon get a much better one and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the ones sold at shar music. i can`t afford one of the violins that are sold straight from the maker, but i wish i could. lol. so if anyone has any input on the ones sold at shar please let me know, the info is much appreciated. thanx

Ok I`ll put it another way: how much do you want to spend?

well i can`t spend an enormous amount, but maybe something that isn`t to pricey that`ll be nicer sounding then the Chinese one i h`ve. i think th`t i tend to like a more warm tone on violins

My son`s Suzuki teacher recommends Shar as an alternative to renting. I bought one for my son and for myself.
I am a beginner but so far I like the one I got for myself. I spent 350 for it. It is Korean.

If you like a warm tone then you need to go for something non-Chinese and not new German either, in my experience at least. The warmest, darkest violin I know is Gliga. Old instruments are another possibility.
Alternatively you could try a simple change of strings: corelli crystal are about as dark as they come at a reasonable price and may be well worth a try if that`s the only reason you want to change.

Well we are the only UK suppliers. But I don`t get any commission or anything on US sales. I just really believe in these instruments.

No, they`re Romanian. The best price (assuming you`re in the US) will be had from violinslover on ebay

shar sounded so familiar...and now i remember why. the very first violin i ever owned was given to me by one of my mother`s friends. it belonged to her children who no longer play. The label inside was from Shar. I haven`t actually ever been to this store or even know where one is in my area even, but the violin sure is nice. They`re good instruments, i`d assume. the one i was given was a 1/4 size copy of a Strad named Carolina(i name my violins. i know. i`m weird.)

oh yeah- if u want a warm, deep toned violin, definately not a new German- i agree with Liz. The newest violin I`ve bought- a full size Karl Hofner from Babenreuth(her name is Lula, btw:-p) sounds very sunny, light, and crisp. its real nice for like irish jigs and fiddle songs but for the classical, dramatic stuff its much better to go for a warmer deeper toned instrument- avoid new german violins:-p
...not to say they`re bad...i actually prefer the light, sunny sort of tone over the old deep tone, but hey, thats just me.
