I don`t know why everyone seems to be in such a rush to `get somewhere` (ie. by that I mean to grow up too soon, to be a star, to be famous...). If someone is talented enough to play in a mature orchestra at age 14 they should be proud of themselves - bonus if you get paid - beats babysitting (in my books anyway). If you`ve lucked out and found yourself a nice violin on eBay you be happy with your find! Enjoy what you have, it doesn`t need to be made to sound `better` than what it is...it`s already great!

BTW...I had the opportunity to play a Maggini copy yesterday...beautiful violin...sounded wonderful...if I was still shopping (and I`m not...love the violin I`m currently playing)...I would`ve seriously considered this Maggini copy...

Right, so you are an occasional player who gets paid. We have those too. Few of them would class themselves as professionals.

I have no doubt you are better than me. That is not the point. I make no claims to be a professional player. The point is, you are 14 and you cannot, BY LAW, make a living full time (unless the law is very different in the US. it counts as child labour, see? Children cannot be employed full time, and professional players are those who eanr a FULL TIME income for playing. Salaried. At a rough guess it would be something like $30,000 a year for the back desk players in the lower professional orchestras (based in UK rates). Now if you get only $150 per concert, you would have to play 200 concerts a year to make up a full time salary. That`s four per week.

Myyyyyy goodness, cant stand to be wrong can you. 150 is the lowest ive gotten paid so far because the funding of the orchestra was cut as i said. Now, If we could get back to the ORIGINAL disscussion before Miss. Jealously came, does anyone have any old famous or simi famous violins violas or cellos? I would love to hear about them!

Anyway ... you STILL have not told us the name on the appraisal certificate, or given us the ebay number, so we can`t verify your rather bizarre claim that you bought a genuine Maggini from ebay, can we? It`s about as genuine as the story of you being a professional player, isn`t it.

i`m no professional, i`m sixteen and i play for fun.
bought it for 5000 with bow and case in new york.
the only problem with it is that i GET WOLF TONES ON OPEN A STRING.....

wolf tones on a violin? I have never heard of that!

you said you paid $5000 for it and you get wolf tones? Who did you buy it from?

so i just played it didn`t ask questions. when i was 14, i asked but they just said some guy in new york. i did a research on wolf tones and every violin, even the finest ones has a wolf tone somewhere on some string. mine is really bad because it`s an open A, a vital note to me. i rather have the wolf tone like on some obscure note on the g that i never use lol. sometimes i play a piece with lots of open A`s, and it sounds like a sheep`s baaah because of that wolf.

Wolf tones are not that common on a violin. Whether they can be fixed or not, I don`t know. take yourself over to

yeah.. for cellos they have wolf tone elimanators, see if they have any for violin... I have never seen one, let me know! I`d be intrested
