Im was a beginner and i never used tabs.........
My orchestra teacher was pretty surprised.
I was the only inexperienced person in teh first row and i dont use tabs..
tabs dont really help well enough

I agree that violin tabs shouldn`t be used to learn violin, but are helpful in learning a tune that you`ve heard and just need the fingering. As for no frets, each half step up is like a fret, and experience with the violin will make this easy.

Hey, my mom has a violin but never uses it. I want to learn how to play the violin...I already play guitar so I suppose that helps a little, but if someone could just tell me where the positions are on the fingerboard it would be awesome ^_^

Hey whoever said they want a fretted violin, i say thats lazy. you want to play the violin use an unfretted fingerboard. i thought like you at the beginning and now i turned a new leaf. you should to!!!

You want to learn to play than you should buy a violin beginner book, preferably the essential elements 2000 series. i`ve been studying for 1 year and i`m going to try out for the first chair at the highest class, and my violin teaqcher said in was just perfect for me!!!

Hehehe...Yeah..its hard placing fingers on the fingerboard coz it wasn`t fretted. And so..my teacher place a mark to where my fingers should be place. It was easy by then. But still i practice myself to a non-fretted fingerboard. It was so cool.

Elan Chalford teaches fiddle. He has a nice set of fiddle tab on his web page: www.fiddleguru.com It`s an easy way for folks to pick out fiddle tunes if they don`t want to learn notation.
I`ve made a few fiddle tab sheets for tunes also. I`d teach children and younger folks notation... but the tab will get adults to have fun playing fiddle... which is a good thing!

Whoever wanted a fretted electric should know that those are for idiots who are too lazy to practice. Not to mention all electrics are crap.
